penology: Penitentiary science that is concerned with the processes devised and adopted for the punishment, repression and prevention of crime, as well as the treatment of prisoners.

plaintiff: The party in a legal dispute who initiates a lawsuit before a court.

plea bargain: An agreement in a criminal case in which a prosecutor and a defendant arrange to settle the case against the defendant.

prosecutor: The chief legal representative of the prosecution in countries adopting the common law adversarial system or civil law inquisitorial system. The prosecutor is also the legal party responsible for presenting the case against an individual suspected of breaking the law in a criminal trial.

rebuttal: A form of evidence that is presented to contradict or nullify other evidence that has been presented by an adverse party.

restorative justice: A commonly known theory of criminal justice that focuses on crime as an act against another individual or community rather than the state.

social justice: A concept of a society in which justice is achieved in every aspect of society, rather than merely through the administration of law.
